The Keo Blade model is the result of work to apply Blade technology to pedals accessible to every user.
The uniqueness of this patented technology is to increase the level of reliability and safety by replacing the classic spring with a composite plate. This solution provides an easier to feel clipping moment, better block holding and greater stability. The release moment in comparison with the classic spring is also faster and easier. All this has made it possible to design a pedal that is even safer and user-friendly, and to dispense with the setting of the insertion/release force. However, to satisfy the needs of all users, the Keo Blade is available in two versions of release force: 8Nm which will satisfy most users, 12Nm suitable for riders and heavier users. Regardless of the choice, both versions have the option of replacing the plate with a model with different release force characteristics.
The body of the pedals is made of compression-molded fiberglass composite, and the full integration of the plate inside it has created the most aerodynamic profile that road pedals in this group have.
Another advantage of the Blade pedals is and maximum width and support area. Equipped with a 60mm wide stainless steel plate, they offer 400mm2 of support and contact area between the block and the pedal regardless of the angle at which it is positioned when pedaling.
Another element that improves stability and support is the work that has been done in optimizing the shape of the block and ensuring its proper position when clipped in, regardless of the angle in which it is located, in the full range of work as it performs during pedaling.
An additional advantage is the low weight which was achieved thanks to a new, lighter axle and the material from which the body was made.
Reliability has been given the utmost attention in the design of the Blade model: the body is made of high mechanical strength material, the support surface is made of stainless steel, the thickened axle with double sealing system and the bearing system have created an extremely durable and safe product.
In order to improve performance, a new axle is used, which reduces the distance between the shoe and the pivot axis. The bearing system consists of two machine bearings and one needle bearing, the bearings that Look uses are validated in a special endurance test. This involves subjecting the bearings to 2 million cycles at a cadence of 100 revolutions and a load of 90kg. Such a test corresponds to, driving a sprinter with 1700W in 333 hours.
The test places much higher demands on them than the existing EN14781 standard. In addition, the double sealing system guarantees the bearings an extremely high level of service life.
With the optional shims available, it is possible to adjust the Q-factor from 53-55mm, which raises the possibility of adjusting the pedals to individual preferences.
