The 12-speed Sram PC-XX1 Eagle chain from the outside may look quite normal, but what makes it possible to handle the gear spread previously found only in two-speed crankset drives is the interior, which is an impressive engineering achievement. It is the most important factor behind the Eagle drive's smooth, precise, quiet operation, and its durability. The inner link plates have smoothly rounded shapes, without any sharp edges or notches, which is significantly quieter, reduces friction and gear wear, and allows the drive to endure operation at higher bevels. It also allows the use of flatter outer plates which improves riveting efficiency by strengthening the chain. Hard Chrome technology increases elongation resistance by a factor of four, and the titanium nitride surface finish reduces susceptibility to corrosion and further reduces friction.
