The inner link plates have a smoothly rounded shape, without any sharp edges or notches, which significantly quiets the drive, reduces friction and sprocket wear, and allows the chain to endure operation at higher inclinations. It also allows the use of flatter outer plates which improves riveting efficiency by strengthening the chain. Hard Chrome technology increases tensile strength by four times.
