The Shimano XTR CS-M9100 cassette is the first 12-speed model in Shimano's lineup. For the best ratio of weight and strength, the three largest sprockets are made of aluminum, the five middle ones are made of titanium, and the four smallest are made of steel. The cassette uses Hyperglide+ technology, which consists of special tooth profiling to aid multiplication. This ensures faster and quieter chain flipping to the smaller sprockets under full load. The cassette is mounted on a new 6-arm spider, which guarantees high rigidity and low weight of the structure. The CS-M9100 mounts in the Micro Spline system requiring a specific cassette drum (not compatible with classic drums).
